One of 2012’s most exciting debut albums came from a Canadian electronic indie duo called Purity Ring. Lush textures, beautiful vocals, and poetically transcendental lyrics set this band and its first album, “Shrines,” far apart from its contemporaries. You can credit Edmonton for unleashing a flood of creativity from Purity Ring’s Megan James and Corin Roddick. As the synth-pop duo worked on their second album, Another Eternity, they ended up writing some of their most fulfilling songs in their hometown. There’s been seemingly endless talk of late about genre dissolvement in music.
